Hi-Span win away

The new R&N 5 a side football season began for the Engineers with a home tie against Hi-Span up the UEA Sportspark. Sadly with both Woodsy and frontman Louigy calling off with hours to go, manager Rixxy had to quickly patch together a team for the game. Thankfully the experienced striker Sharpy agreed to help out again, amazingly Rixxy played him in goal after Steve the fish failed to show! To be fair on manager Rixxy the Engineers only had 5 players to choose from. Hi-Span agreed to play 5 a side on the large UEA pitch and the season got underway. Academy newboy Ashley was included in the starting lineup on a trial basis following some impressive performances talking up a good game. Hi-Span began strongly and eventually found a way past the almost unstoppable Sharpy in goal. With Striker Sharpy in goal it was left to Ashley upfront to forage alone in a forest of Hi-Span players. The inclusion of Ash soon started to pay dividends as the he received the ball wide on the left well in the engineers half, turned on a sixpence, skipped past 10 or 11 players, and dispatched a power drive through the helpless Hi-Span keeper to open the scoring for the Engineers. By this time Hi-Span had already notched up a few goals and were the more industrious side. The engineers continued pumping the ball forward to Ash but failed to get up to support his endeavours. As the game went on Rixxy and Rich moved further up field searching for goals but Hi-Span eventually ran out 4-6 winners with Rich and Lambert adding for the Engineers. A great display from Sharpy in goal. Thanks again to Hi-Span who used their pitch for the game and approached the game in a terrifically sporting manner.

Men of the Match: Academy boy Ash who ran tirelessly throughout and Sharpy in goal.
